I was about to go on stage — just like so many times before, after more than 25 years as a professional drummer.
But this time was different.
Suddenly, I couldn’t remember how to play.
I went completely blank. Panic hit me:
“How am I going to play this gig? I’m going to mess it up for everyone. What’s happening to me?”
Having played drums every day since the age of three, it felt like I no longer knew how to walk.
I somehow got through the gig — in a state of shock and panic for the entire two and a half hours.
When I walked off stage, I knew I had come to the end of the road.
I had strayed too far from myself, for too long.
I was standing at the edge of an abyss.
I needed to make the biggest change of my life.
My truth, my sexuality, my direction — all gone.
I had to go find them again.
That same day, I set out on the journey to fire up my Inner Superpower.
